Measuring the colocation of crime hotspots

چکیده

Abstract Crimes tend to concentrate in high-risk places known as crime hotspots. While the size and locations of such hotspots vary between different types would underlying conditions that trigger each crime, extent overlaps their is understudied. Using data from Chicago aggregated at community-area census-tract levels, this paper investigates patterns overlapping see whether a specific group regularly form joint cluster. Specifically, we identify statistically significant for and, using frequent-pattern-growth algorithm, analyse frequency combination crimes sharing hotspot across study area. Results suggest stable multi-layered colocations area holds its subset: namely, pervasive, primary consisting assault , battery criminal damage property which are frequently joined by 7 additional (e.g. street robbery motor vehicle theft weapons violation ) comprise secondary colocations, some evolving an even larger, tertiary colocation with up 11 homicide, sexual assault, narcotics crime-riddled neighbourhoods. This structure well diagrams show most representative improve our understanding association indicators other crimes.

Spatio-temporal crime hotspots and the ambient population

It is well known that, due to that inherent differences in their underlying causal mechanisms, different types of crime will have variable impacts on different groups of people. Furthermore, the locations of vulnerable groups of people are highly temporally dynamic. Hence an accurate estimate of the true population at risk in a given place and time is vital for reliable crime rate calculation a...

The Local Colocation Patterns of Crime and Land-Use Features in Wuhan, China

Most studies of spatial colocation patterns of crime and land-use features in geographical information science and environmental criminology employ global measures, potentially obscuring spatial inhomogeneity. This study investigated the relationships of three types of crime with 22 types of land-use in Wuhan, China. First, global colocation patterns were examined. Then, local colocation patter...

Analyzing and Displaying of Crime Hotspots using Fuzzy Mapping Method

Pattern detection is one of the essential challenges in crime mapping and analysis. Data mining can be used to explore crime detection problems. A cluster technique is an effective method for determining areas with high concentrations of localized events. Conversely, it remains a particularly demanding task to detect hotspots with mapping methods in view of the vulnerability connected with the ...

Nonlinear Patterns in Urban Crime: Hotspots, Bifurcations, and Suppression

We present a weakly nonlinear analysis of our recently developed model for the formation of crime patterns. Using a perturbative approach, we find amplitude equations that govern the development of crime “hotspot” patterns in our system in both the one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) cases. In addition to the supercritical spots already shown to exist in our previous work, we prove he...

Crime Prediction Based On Crime Types And Using Spatial And Temporal Criminal Hotspots

This paper focuses on finding spatial and temporal criminal hotspots. It analyses two different real-world crimes datasets for Denver, CO and Los Angeles, CA and provides a comparison between the two datasets through a statistical analysis supported by several graphs. Then, it clarifies how we conducted Apriori algorithm to produce interesting frequent patterns for criminal hotspots. In additio...
